Ty's Birth Story

Our sweet baby boy was born on July 23, 2015 and it's time to tell his story!

On June 21, which was also our 8th wedding anniversary, I went in for my 40 week appointment. All of my previous appointments had been very normal. My weight gain was good (haha), my blood pressure was good and things were slowly starting to move along. However on this day, my blood pressure was high. My doctor seemed slightly alarmed and decided that I needed to be induced that night. We were a little bummed because we had planned on going out to dinner for our anniversary, but excited that we would soon be meeting our little boy! The doctor came back in and told us that the hospital was full and that we should go home and they would call us when a room opened up.

We ended up going out to dinner and had a lovely time! After, we went home and waited. We were expecting a call somewhere between 11 and 1 that night. We waited and waited and waited and they never called. I didn't really sleep, because I was so anxious wondering when they would call. Finally, around 5, they called and told us to come to the hospital around 7.

We got to the hospital and got all checked in a settled. The first part of my induction was Cervidil to help my cervix start to soften (sorry if that's TMI!). It was going to take all day for it to work and I was expecting to lay around and rest and watch some movies. Instead of doing that, it put me into labor! Ty was on his way! I labored all day and Jessyel was amazing and by my side the whole time. That night, my contractions were getting stronger and more painful and I was exhausted. I was dilated to a 2, and it wasn't looking like I would need Pitocin! I had been up for about two days at this point and just wanted to sleep. My back was hurting from the contractions and it was hard for me to find a comfortable position. With Penny's birth, I was positive that I wanted am unmedicated birth. I had a doula and Jessyel was again amazing and supportive! With Ty, I didn't have a doula, and I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to have an unmedicated birth again. Around 9 that after being up for so many hours, I decided I wanted an epidural so I could get some sleep and let my body continue to dilate over night. It was the greatest thing ever!! I was able to rest through out the night in between beeping machines and the nurse coming in to roll me over. Which by the way, made me feel like a gigantic beached whale!!

That morning, I had dilated to a 10 and we were waiting to hear from my doctor. She had a meeting to go and the baby and I were doing well so we decided to wait a bit. I took a nap for about an hour or so and when the nurse came in, she said "Do you want to have a baby?" It was time! It took 4 hours of pushing when Penny was born, so they wanted me to push a little bit before the doctor came in. I got all set up and started to push and was told immediately to stop! He was practically falling out haha! It took 11 minutes for my doctor to arrive and as soon as she did I got all ready to meet my sweet boy! I pushed on time and he was born! I got to bring him up to my chest right away and hold and snuggle him. I loved the moment with both of our kids when I got to look up at Jessyel after they were both born. It's a moment I will never forget. He was so tiny and sweet and perfect. I got to hold him and nurse him for a couple of hours before the nurses came in to give him his first bath and weigh him. It was an amazing experience and we are so in love with our sweet baby boy.

Ty Grayson Gonzalez was born on July 23, 2015, he weighed albs 0.7 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. Penny loves him to pieces and we are a very proud little family!

June 2015

June was basically survival mode for me. I was so tired of working and unhappy at school and just wanted it to end so I could be done with it all. I got done June 19th! That is just way too long of a school year for me! And if I had to go back, it would be on July 20th! A four week summer? No thank you! Thank goodness for maternity leave! I'm already praying I can somehow find a new job in four months even though it will be a few months into the school year.

Jessyel also traveled for most of the month, which was very hard for me. Thankfully, my mom came and stayed with Penny and I while she was gone. I have also been so homesick and missing people, as usual, and really sad about not getting to go home for a baby shower and to see everyone again before I was 32 weeks and not able to fly anymore.

It wasn't all bad though!

Penny took a sibling class at the hospital. She really enjoyed practicing feeding, changing, and swaddling the baby doll. She is so excited for the baby to born! She tells me that she wants him to come out almost every day!

She has asked to see my belly everyday for the past couple months and gives it hugs and kisses, but lately she has started reading to him and it is the sweetest thing I have ever experienced! Her love of my belly is probably the only thing I will miss about being pregnant!

She had her end of year picnic at school too. We were so lucky that she had such amazing teachers the past six months. She just loved them and pretended to be them all the time! It was a little bittersweet taking her out for the summer because she liked the teachers and other kids so much.

On my mom's last day here, we went to a rose garden in San Jose. We will most be going back for sure! It's the perfect place for a picnic and running around in the grass!

Penny and I enjoyed our first couple week of summer home together! Almost everything we do requires her wearing a princess dress. We did't do a whole lot and her new favorite thing to do is watch movies and eat popcorn at night which is ok with 8 months pregnant me!

The absolute highlight of my month was my baby shower in a box! More on that later!

Jessyel is done traveling until the baby is born and Penny and I are both very glad that he is home again!! Now, we are onto July and waiting for this little boy to be born!

May 2015

May was a pretty busy month for us!

We went to the Marine Mammal Center, which is a pretty cool place where they rescue sea lions and seals. We also went to the BayArea Discovery Museum.

The next weekend was Mother's Day weekend and we had maternity portriats planned. They turned out so good! I love them! Jessyel also surprised me with a little overnight trip to San Fransico. We ordered room service and spent the day going to the Children's Creativity Museum, riding the trolley, eating ice cream at Ghirardelli, and rolling rolling around at the beach.

We have also enjoyed eating breakfast out and swimming in the pool!

Penny also had her first dance recital. She was so excited and did awesome!

Life So Far in CA

We have been in California for about 4 months now and things have finally gotten to a point where we are feeling a little more settled and ok with how things are going.

First, the good! The weather here is amazing! It is sunny most days and for the past month or so it has been somewhere in the 70s or 80s. I don't miss the snow one bit! Since we aren't quite sure how long we will be living here, we try to take advantage of all the wonderful things to do around us. We've been to some beaches, a couple of zoos, and San Francisco. We are grateful to be so close to these places that so many people have to travel far to get to see and experience.

We also found out we are having a baby boy! Penny took a little bit of time to get adjusted to the fact that she wasn't going to have a sister, but now she is very excited. She has been calling the baby Kai since the beginning and continues to insist that his name will be Kai! She wants to look at and talk to my belly everyday! She talks about sharing her toys and going on adventures with him.

Now for the bad (that ends up being partly a blessing in the long run).  First, my job has not been the best place I have ever worked. To sum up without saying much it just leaves me very stressed and not too happy. Hoping that will change in one way or another next year. Second, I have also been extremely homesick. I didn't think it would be as bad as it is, but I just miss our friends and family terribly. I'm hoping that with more time I will meet some great people out here that I can connect with. Third, and perhaps worst of all, sometime in late February Jessyel unfortunately lost his job. The company was a start up and basically ran out of funding to keep going. It wasn't based on performance, but it still was very hard and emotional. The job was the whole reason we moved here and we found ourselves wondering what the future was going to hold. It has been a very, very long two months of waiting, praying, and wondering what was going to happen in terms of his job and our staying in California or perhaps moving back to Colorado. Thankfully, he has found another job that is much better for our family and is something that he has wanted for a very long time. In the long run it will be much better for us and for Jessyel's future ability to find a job where ever we want to live.  Although it would have been nice to move back home, it is a huge relief and we have been much happier and relaxed!

My school year ends June 17th (which is just horrid that it goes so late) and then we will just have a few more weeks until or little man is born. I'm hoping that the new job is a turning point and things only go up from here!

More adventure to come!
